Established in 2011, the Centre for Solid Waste Bioprocessing is co-owned by the School of Civil Engineering and the School of Chemical Engineering at The University of Queensland.

The centre's research is focused on organic waste recycling and identifying novel markets for waste organic materials. Utilising UQ's bioengineering research talent and support from industry partners, CSWB aims to find waste management research opportunities in the resource and agricultural sectors.

Led by Director Professor Bill Clarke, the CSWB is made up of a small group of highly respected researchers and students, who are counselled by the centre's Advisory Board. The board has charged CSWB to foster an integrative approach when it comes to collaboration between all engineering fields and biological and molecular sciences, with a view to maximise innovation.
